HISTORY

Skylab Glass Arts was founded in 2016 by David Schuster and a group of young glass blowers from Anoka-Ramsey Community College's Fine Arts program, focusing on glass. They realized it was hard to make a living in a market flooded with cheap products made overseas. With the rise of borosilicate lampworking, they shifted from soft glassblowing to hard glass. Starting in a small garage with two torches and a few kilns, the Skylab team has now expanded their workspace and refined their skills, eager to share their art with the world.

There's a business in Golden Valley that's sparking creativity. Skylab Glass Arts is fueling a new generation of artists. If you're not familiar with lampworking, consider this your introduction. "It's not like standard glass blowing, you use a fix mounted torch and use that to manipulate the glass," says David Schuster, owner of Skylab Glass Arts.
